What is Fair Trade Plus+® ?

Who We Are:

Fair Trade Plus+® represents a new dynamic to the fair trade movement because our approach is unique. The model was established by a pair of entrepreneurs who wished to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with producers (IE Farmers, Artisans, etc.) in developing nations who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to reap the benefits of fair trade. At first they sought to teach the producers to market their products themselves, but more often then not, the producers would say "Can we partner with you? We'll produce it, you sell it."

What We Do:

Instead of focusing on a long and costly certification process that is usually paid for by the producers themselves, Fair Trade Plus+® seeks to bring producers and companies into direct contact, cutting out the middlemen. The traditional path to market (first through brokers and distributors, and then finally to the chefs and end consumers) limited small producers to the current market price for their products. Working with family producers, the companies can use the Fair Trade Plus+® business model, which includes a fair market price for the products, plus a percentage of the value added sale so that producers can participate in the profits of the final sale of their products just as if they branded and promoted them on their own. In return, the producers promise to continue sustainable, organic, and socially responsible practices.
